Because of one family's generosity many deserving students will be able to attend Mesa State College on a scholarship.
The college received $100,000 from the Stanley E. and Ruth Majory T. Johnson Family Trust.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson established a masonry manufacturing and sales business in California more than 50 years before expanding to Grand Junction about 20 years ago by opening the Brickyard. Their grand daughter says donating the money to the college is their way of giving back to the community.
Mrs. Johnson passed away in 1995, and Mr. Johnson in 2004. The $100,000 is a partial distribution of the monies the Johnson's earmarked for scholarships at Mesa State with the remainder to be donated when the trust disbursement is finalized.
