A three-car accident Saturday night on North Ave. shut down a portion of the road for several hours and caused serious injuries to one driver.
The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday night and happened when two vehicles traveling east bound collided near 18th St.
The collision forced one of the vehicles into the median, taking out a street light post and hitting a pick-up truck driving in the west bound lanes.
The drivers in the two initial vehicles were described as one 20-year-old male and one 18-year-old female and the male driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to St. Mary's Hospital.
As of midnight, Grand Junction Police Department officials say the driver was listed as serious but stable.
Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash and the accident investigation team kept a stretch of North Ave. closed to determine the cause of the crash.
Officials add that an on-duty police officer barely missed being involved in the crash and along with a couple of off-duty EMT's, helped the male driver, who was initially pinned under his vehicle after being ejected.
