Homeless Shelter Full

Below freezing temperatures have the homeless population looking for shelter now more than ever, and to accommodate all, the Grand Junction Community Homeless Shelter is getting creative.

To make room for everyone, the staff has been re–arranging the shelter's layout. Each night they move the couches and put away the tables and chairs in the eating area so that more make–shift beds can be laid out. On average the shelter is seeing about 95 to 100 people a night. And while space is limited, for the most part they aren't turning anyone away.

If the daytime high is predicted at less than 35 degrees, the shelter says it will do it's best to be open during the day for families with kids that aren't in school, those with disabilities and folks who work at night. The shelter is in need of adult sized hats and mittens and coffee.
