As 2006 draws close to an end the Grand Junction Visitors and Convention Bureau reflects on a very successful year.
According to the Bureau, there were a record number of people who came to visit Grand Junction from at least 50 different countries, bringing tax revenue from lodging and restaurants up 17.8% over last year. The Bureau also chalks the good news up to the fact that Grand Junction is attracting new businesses and the growing oil and gas industry.
December and January are typically slow months for lodgers, however this year numbers are up and some hotels have even reported being full at times. Hotels and restaurants may also see an increase in business due to the winter storm moving through the area, many travelers may choose to stay the night rather than take on the conditions.
