One local car wash owner is facing a serious loss of business and it's not because of the declining economy. For Dave Vandyke...owner of Van's Car-wash, his day started off with a bang. Around eleven O'clock today, Grand Junction police officer Mark Brown was getting a car wash when it shook violently.
"It totally took the whole gantry up off the tracks and turned it sideways," says VanDyke. An 85 year old woman who was reaching out her window to pay for her wash, her foot slipped off the brake and slammed down on the gas shooting her into the car-wash and into the back of the police car. "There's a lot of damage, we're going to try to get it back onto the track to see if it runs, if it doesn't run straight we may have to replace the whole gantry," says VanDyke.
Aside from the one hundred thousand dollar price tag on a new Gantry Dave VanDyke stands to lose even more, "it could be anywhere from 3 to 4 weeks," which mean even more losses. "Looking at about ten thousand in lost revenue for about three weeks," says Dave.
For now Dave is trying to keep his head up. The rest of the car-wash will still remain open while the damage to the auto-wash is being assessed.
