Accident Prompts Action From Authorities

A 6-year-old girl remains hospitalized after being hit by a car Thursday afternoon. Hospital officials have upgraded her from critical to serious condition.

The young girl was hit by a car while walking home from school Thursday. Police say the girl was walking on the north side of d and a half road near Pear Park Elementary with several other children when she suddenly entered into the roadway, that's when she was struck by a Lincoln IS Sedan.

Citizens have been speaking out about the dangers pedestrians face in that area, so Friday officials from the Police Department, Sheriff's Office, City, County and the School District came together to address the issue of safety.

At the meeting it was decided that the first step to ensure pedestrian safety will be to increase school zone patrols by both the Police Department and Sheriff's Office.
