A student at Centennial Middle School in Montrose has been facing disciplinary action for violating the school's dress code. Now his mother is fighting to change the school's policy.
Just before Christmas break, Christel Pizzaruso's son, Dakota, showed up to school in pajama bottoms. Dakota was not even able to get into the classroom when school officials asked him to leave. He was called into the office and was informed of Centennial Middle School's policy against wearing pajamas to school, which school officials say Dakota was aware of.
When school resumed this past Tuesday, Dakota, showed up once again in his pajamas. He was given one day in school suspension by the principal. The school is now holding a parent advisory meeting next week to re evaluate the school's current dress code.
Ultimately, Christel Pizzarusso will send her son back to school in regular dress, not because they are conforming to school's dress code policy, but because Christel said it's important for her son to stay in school and get an education.
The parent advisory meeting is open to the public, and will be held next Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the Centennial Middle School Library.
