Cold And Snow Roar Through Grand Valley

The Grand Valley was once again hit by winter weather, but this time there's more to worry about than just snow.

The winter system took its time moving into the area, but once it did, the combination of precipitation and more importantly an arctic cold surge caused a variety of problems.

Although just 2.4" of snow fell during the storm, Grand Junction's snow desk and street crews swung into action in the late afternoon Friday, monitoring temperatures and street conditions.

A handful of city plows were sent out around 1 a.m. Saturday, clearing the fast falling snow.

Crews say the amount of man hours will exceed previous storms of the season, but the worst is behind the Grand Valley.

CDOT had more than a dozen plows across Mesa County to handle the snowfall and due to a number of morning accidents, the Grand Junction Police Department declared an accident alert at 8 a.m. Saturday.
