Fruita Park Site Plan Approved

Children of all ages in Fruita will soon have a new place to play as the city approves the site plan for a new park.

The Little Salt Wash Park is a 23-acre site and will cost the city an estimated $2.2M, much of which has been budgeted for this year.

The park will consist of turf fields for soccer or football, more than a handful of baseball or softball diamonds, as well as a playground and concession area.

Because of it's proximity, some are asking for a traffic study along 18 Rd. to measure potential impacts, but with the plan approved, city engineers are hoping to hear the phrase "play ball" sooner rather than later.

"About a year from now we want to have playable fields—that means turf, four baseball diamonds, dugouts, back stops, all the stuff that goes along with little league," Fruita City Engineer Eric Mende said.

Mende adds crews are hoping to begin construction by June or July.
