Car Erupts In Flames After Hitting Parked Vehicle

A car bursts into flames after slamming into the back of a parked pick-up truck at a rest area off Interstate 70 early Sunday morning.

The accident happened around 5 a.m. Sunday near mile post 39 in Mesa County.

According to Colorado State Patrol, the parked pick-up truck suffered heavy rear end damage while the passenger car, driven by 24-year-old Robert Wilkens of Palisade, also suffered major damage to the front of the vehicle.

The Clifton Fire Department responded to the scene and drivers of both the truck and the car received minor injuries.

Wilkens was cited for careless driving and for driving without a license and insurance.
