Paonia Man Dies After SUV plunges off Road into Black Canyon

Crawford, Colo. (AP) A Paonia man is dead after the car he was riding in plunged off a state highway and into the Black Canyon.

The Colorado State Patrol says 36-year-old Alfred t. Rankin
Junior died Tuesday when his wife lost control of a Dodge Durango and rolled about 800 feet off Highway 92.

Twenty-nine-year-old Leticia Rankin suffered minor injuries.

Investigators say she there was no guardrail at the site where the s-u-v left the road.

Captain Clark Bates says both Rankins were wearing seat belts, but the vehicle's air bags did not inflate.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as factors in the crash.
