The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is sending out a warning tonight because a registered sexually violent predator has had a change of address.
Earnest Welton has now moved to B.L.M. land, north east of the Grand Valley Canal located off 25 Road. This location is a recreation site for residents and visitors to Mesa County. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office is working with the B.L.M. and the Colorado Sex Offender Management Board to provide notification to residents because Welton is relocating to public land. It is not legal to permanently live on the land where Welton has registered but he can stay there for up to 14 days and will be constantly monitored.
Mesa County Sheriff Department's Public Information Officer, Norma Mestas says, "He will remain within a two mile radius of where he registered, and through G.P.S. tracking devices we will be able to have his location at any time."
A notification meeting will still be held to for anyone interested in attending, but that date has not yet been set.
