Several homes were evacuated and traffic was shut down as a man suspected of kidnapping his girlfriend and four month old child at gunpoint held officers at bay for nearly five hours. Before that, law enforcement searched for the suspect for an additional five hours. They finally found him at his home right on Pitkin near 2nd street.

Mesa County Sheriff Department's Public Information Officer, Norma Mestas says, "His girlfriend and child were in the house, but they escaped out the back when he was distracted in the front of the house, then she escaped out the back."

Prescott did not respond to authorities even after they tried to gas him out. This finally came to an end just after seven on Tuesday morning which is nearly ten hours after officials initially responded. Prescott already had four active warrants stemming from robbery charges and now he is facing six more.
