Chapel Hill, N.C. (AP) Democratic presidential contender John Edwards says his wife's cancer has returned, but his campaign for the White House will continue.

At a news conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with his wife Elizabeth by his side, Edwards told reporters "the campaign goes on strongly.''

Elizabeth Edwards was diagnosed with breast cancer in the final days of the 2004 presidential campaign. She underwent several months of radiation and chemotherapy.

John Edwards said a biopsy of her rib showed the cancer was back and had spread to the bones. Once in the bones, it is not considered curable, though Edwards did call it "treatable.''

At today's news conference, Elizabeth Edwards said she doesn't feel "sickly'' and described herself "as ready as any person can be'' to deal with it. She said she encouraged her husband to continue the campaign.
