Roughly 4,000 Xcel customers were without power for about an hour Wednesday.
Shortly before 11:30 a.m. a switch cabinet failed and caught fire off of Summer Glen Drive.
Xcel employees were able to put the flames out but residents and businesses in the area were left without power. Colorado State Patrol was called out to direct traffic at I-70B and North Avenue. Some local gas stations had to turn away customers because the pumps weren't working.
The outage affected customers from 28 to 32 Road and Orchard south to the river. Power was restored just before 12:30 p.m.
Xcel officials say outages like this are rare and it's highly unusual for a switch cabinet to catch fire.
