GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Another Republican is gearing up to challenge Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet, and the new candidate has a Western Slope tie.
Former State Sen. Tom Wiens of Douglas County has filed to run against Bennet.
Wiens owned a local radio station and was a board member of Club 20.
He says he’ll start his campaign Thursday.
At least six Republicans are now competing for the chance to challenge Bennet.
Others include former Lt. Gov. Jane Norton and Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck.
Wiens spent time in the State House and Senate. His legislative work included a 2006 law requiring Colorado Law Enforcement to turn over to federal authorities the names of suspected illegal immigrants.
