An 8–year–old girl is sent the hospital Thursday morning after being hit by a truck on her way to the bus stop.
Nayeli Contreras was hit just before 8:15 Thursday morning in the 300 Block of Independent Avenue.
According the Grand Junction Police Department, Contreras was walking across the street at a crosswalk when a Toyota pick–up truck hit her. Officials believe the driver was distracted but did try to avoid the girl, however she also tried to avoid him and they both went same direction and he ended up hitting her with his bumper.
Contreras is listed in fair condition at St. Mary's Hospital.
The driver of the truck, 32–year–old Lyle McRobbie, will likely be cited for careless driving resulting in injury and failure to yield to a pedestrian.
Contreras is a student at Pomona Elementary School.
