Fire Destroys Grand Junction Couple's Home

It wasn't the smoke detectors that alerted Dave Roper and his wife that their home was on fire, instead they believe it was a sign from up above. Roper says heaven prompted him to wake up and check things out. When he got up, Roper saw flames coming off the back corner of his garage. He yelled to his wife, grabbed his dog and two cats and got out.

The fire started in the garage and ripped through a bathroom, the kitchen, a computer room, and the Roper's library. Friends and family have come together to help the Ropers deal with their loss.

The Ropers say they know it will be a long road to recovery, but they're just thankful no one was hurt.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, damage to the home and its contents is listed at about $200,000.
