Higher Ed Officials may Discontinue ``Discontinuance'' List

Denver (AP) For the last decade, state education officials have put poorly attended state college programs on a list to have them discontinued.

But they're reconsidering that policy because most of those programs are in science, math and engineering.

Department of Higher Education Executive Director David Skaggs says it can't seriously consider eliminating those programs.

Programs that typically ended up on the ``discontinuance'' list attracted just ten or fewer students.

The state rarely discontinues a program without university approval, and schools can fight discontinuances to keep programs.

A spokesman says the higher education commission will consider the matter in August.
