Fort Carson, Colo. (AP) The 4th infantry division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team is preparing to go back to Iraq, probably this fall.
The 3rd brigade has a long checklist of training to get through at Fort Carson before heading to the national training center at Fort Irwin, California, in May for three weeks.
Recent training included refreshing troops' skills on patrol protocols and how to deal with sudden sniper attacks. A mock Iraqi village was set up at Fort Carson to help with the training.
About 70 percent of the 3,800 soldiers in the 3rd brigade are already Iraq veterans.
The unit lost 18 soldiers on its last tour in Iraq in 2006.
The next deployment is expected to last 15 months, up from a year.
