School Meals Face Price Increase

In the past few years School District 51 has been losing money when it comes to school lunches.

Officials say there has been a nine percent increase in the cost to provide school lunch and since there haven't been any raises in price, the District has been losing fourteen cents per meal. That's why the District is proposing a twenty five cent increase on all school lunches and breakfasts. This has caused some to question why the District gave money to Mesa State College if it needed funds.

Jeff Kirkland, Mesa County School District says, "The confusion is could we have used the money that we invested in the classroom and that's not the case it's a separate fund."

This proposal is awaiting approval from the Colorado Department of Education and if passed all schools in District 51 will increase the cost.
