Fruita Teacher Dies On Field Trip

A science teacher from Fruita Monument High School died over the weekend while leading a school field trip.

A spokesperson with School District 51 says Mike Williams died while taking a group of students to Arches National Park on Saturday.

Willaims had been a teacher at Fruita since 1992. A crisis team was brought to the school today to help students and staff cope with the loss.

The district says their thoughts are with the school, community, students and especially the family.
