They put their lives on the line everyday, they are our men and women in uniform, and this month they are being honored.
On Monday morning, the Board of Mesa County Commissioners kicked off National Police Week by signing a proclamation to honor all law enforcement agencies in our area.
The Grand Junction Police Department, the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the Fruita Police Department were all on hand for the ceremony.
All agencies agree that working together is vital to keeping our community safe.
During the proclamation, the Mesa County Commissioners also honored Edward Innes, the only Mesa County sheriff's deputy to die in the line of duty.
Tuesday is National Peace Officers' Memorial Day. A flag ceremony will take place outside of the Mesa County Sheriff's office at 8:00 a.m.
The event is open to the public.
