It's getting to be that time of year to jump in the pool to beat the heat,
but there are microscopic dangers that lurk in these chlorinated waters.
Monday marks the beginning of National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week.
Its goal is to make parents and children aware of water born illnesses that can occur when pool goers swim in or swallow contaminated water.
Cryptosporidium is one of the most common outbreaks. It's introduced into the pool by swimmers who are ill with diarrhea and spread to other swimmers when swallow the contaminated water.
Simple tips to avoid getting sick include:
1. Do not swim when you have diarrhea.
2. Do not swallow pool water.
3. Shower before swimming.
4. Wash hands after using bathroom breaks or changing diapers.
5. Take children to bathroom breaks or change diapers often.
6. Change children's diapers in a bathroom, not at pool side.
