After months of preparation, the 50th annual Junior College World Series is finally underway.
Chipola College and Western Iowa Community College kicked off the tournament Saturday morning in Grand Junction.
Thousands of fans went through the turnstiles at Sam Suplizio Field for the action. The tournament put Grand Junction on the baseball map of America. There are thousands of out-of-town fans, and that means good things for area hotels and restaurants. JUCO Committee members say the golden anniversary has caused a bit more stress this year, as they want everything to be perfect, especially the field. For many local fans, the week of JUCO has become a celebration as well as a tradition.
