A small plane crashed while trying to take off at Grand Junction Regional Airport at about 9:30 Monday morning.

Officials say the Cessna "ground looped" which caused it to flip onto its back. says "a ground loop is an uncontrolled turn during ground operation."

Authorities say the pilot may have hit the breaks too hard.

Only the pilot was onboard the aircraft, and was not injured.

Federal agents will not be called in to investigate the crash because there were no serious injuries.

Because the accident happened on the airport's secondary runway it caused no delays.

Damage to the plane is substantial.
