A Grand Junction man is dead after a trip up to the Grand Mesa takes a deadly turn.

At around 11:30 Tuesday night, Mesa County Search and Rescue recovered the body of 86-year-old Edward Roskowski from atop the Grand Mesa.

Roskowski's family told authorities he went mushroom picking on Friday.

Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office found Roskowski's car on Highway 65 near mile post 39. His body was found nearby in the Mesa Creek Drainage area about 2 1/2 miles from Powderhorn.

The Mesa County Coroner's Office has ruled the cause of death as heart disease, and says other contributing factors include a broken right leg and rib fractures.

Officials say it appears Roskowski fell on some rocks he was climbing
and then most likely suffered a sudden cardiac death due to his heart disease. The manner of death has been ruled an accident.
