Grand Junction Man Sentenced to Prison

A Grand Junction man with a reputation for assaulting hotel maids may be spending the rest of his life in prison.

It was in September when Michael Smith threatened a Quality Inn hotel maid with a knife and told her to lie down on the bed. But the maid hit him with a lamp and he took off.

Today, Smith was sentenced by Judge Flynn to an open prison term,
meaning he'll spend a minimum of five years behind bars and won't be released until he's deemed cured. If he ever is released from prison he'll have to spend the rest of his life on parole.

Smith was also arrested last August for a similar attack.
