Jury Finds Grand Junction Man Guilty Of Sexual Assault

On Friday afternoon, jurors reached a verdict against a Grand Junction man, who was facing charges of abusing children at his wife's day care center during a period of more than 20 years.

The charges against Edward Morfin broke down to 12 separate instances of abuse against a handful of children and after less than a day of deliberation, the jury of nine men and three women found Morfin guilty on all counts.

The instances of abuse spanned from the early 1980's to the early 2003 and prosecuting attorneys say the verdict can now bring closure as well as justice for those victimized.

However, Morfin's family maintains his innocence, saying the trial was conducted in an unfair manner.

Morfin will return to court in August for sentencing and with the verdict, the now convicted sex offender could spend the rest of his life behind bars.
