JUCO fans and teams have packed up to leave Grand Junction, but businesses in the area are adding up all of their profits from the additional business thanks to the visitors.
More than 100 thousand fans have been through the turnstiles at Suplizio Field this week and the restaurants in the area have had a surge of customers. Arby's across the street has seen a 25 percent increase in business and Pita Pit has had their crews working overtime.
The owners of Pita Pit came into town to help with the demand and for them JUCO had a lot to do with the opening of their shop.
Jim Talley says, "In 2005 we came here to go to JUCO games 'cause the owner's son was on the New Mexico team and we were here for about a week and we really liked it here. At that time we never thought about opening a shop but we loved it here so we bought it and now we are back here and New Mexico was in it again."
It's not just restaurants that have had a golden week. JUCO committee members say this year ticket sales are about six percent more than last year.
