Car Accident Leaves Two Dead

A fatal accident leaves leaves two people dead, including a young child. The accident happened around 11:30 on Wednesday morning. A small Sedan was making a left hand turn onto 28 ½ Road when a van towing a trailer broadsided the car. The occupants inside the car were trapped inside and it took Grand Junction fire crews nearly 45 minutes of get them all free. The young child that was in the Sedan died at the scene. The passenger of the car was taken to St. Mary's where she later lost her life.

Mike Page with the Grand Junction Fire Department says, "We tried to get all of the metal removed from the car and treat the patients as best as possible to get them in a position so we can get them out. In this case we had to knock doors out and take the roof off to make that occur."

According to the Colorado State Patrol, initial reports indicate that the small child who died in the crash was not restrained. The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and the driver of the van sustained minor injuries.
