Las Colonias Master Plan Adopted

It's been in the works for more than a decade and on Wednesday, a plan to transform Grand Junction's riverfront was adopted.

The 107 acre site along the Colorado River will extend the riverfront trail system with amenities from a dog park to an amphitheater.

The plan provides the blueprint for its future development which could potentially cost about $20M.

But despite the plan's approval, don't expect construction to start any time soon.

"It could be 10-15 years before the beginning of construction or the completion of construction," Grand Junction Parks Planner Shawn Cooper said.

Along with no time frame, at the moment the park has no budget allotments either, but officials say the park will most likely be funded through public and private funds.
