The power outage began about 7:45 p.m. Sunday affecting 3,228 Xcel Energy customers as well as some with Grand Valley Power.
The outage was concentrated in the Fruita and Redlands areas from 15 Road to 22 Road between Interstate 70 and the Colorado National Monument. The outage lasted nearly two hours, with Xcel getting customers on line as the problems at the substation were managed.
Fred Eggleston with Xcel says three feeders went down. One of those feeders handles the antenna transmission for several Grand Junction TV and radio stations including KKCO.
This is the second major power outage for Xcel in less than a week. On Thursday Xcel experienced problems at a substation in Grand Junction. That incident also left about 32-hundred people without power for about an hour.
