Westbound Interstate 70 is closed from Byers to Deer Trail after a crash involving two semi-trucks.
Authorities say at least one person died in the crash that apparently occurred sometime around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. Helicopter pictures from the scene show one of the trailers and its cab completely destroyed by fire. It is so badly burned that the cab was melted to the ground.
The trailer is still smoldering, several hours after the crash. An initial investigation indicated that one truck was traveling too fast and slammed into the back of another.
There's no word on what the trucks were hauling, or the identities of the drivers.
Officials are re-routing traffic along US Highway 40 as an alternative route.
