Colorado Springs, Colo. (AP) Lawyers for two teens accused of planning a deadly attack at a high school claim they were simply researching a paper of school shootings and never intended to carry out the plan.

The 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl from Harrison High School were arrested before a May 4th pep rally where police thought they would carry out their plan.

During a preliminary hearing in the case, the girl's lawyer, Bill Holtz, pointed out that they were no weapons or other materials to carry out the planned attack.

The lawyers plan to call an English teacher to testify about how the boy was asked to research a paper on school shootings for class.

The preliminary hearing is expected to end next week and then a judge must decide if there is enough evidence to put the teens on trial.
