Grand Junction should be safer for you and your family now that 15 new police officers have been sworn in. The new officers raised their right hands to take an oath to protect and serve. Though Its been almost ten years since the Grand Junction Police Department has been fully staffed, Tuesday’s ceremony changed that.

Police Chief Bill Gardner says the officers will increase the force's response time and cut down on mandatory overtime for current officers. The officers will undergo four months of training before they will be out in full force.

Nine of the new officers are recent graduates of Mesa State College's Peace Officers Academy. This is the largest group of officers to take the oath in the police department’s history.
