A 23-year-old Grand Junction mother is behind bars charged with five counts of felony child abuse.
The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and are believed to have taken place between March and May of this year.
Erin Marie DeSpain remains in custody at the Mesa County Jail. The victim of the abuse is her own two month old infant. The child was taken to the hospital on May 17th with multiple injuries which DeSpain said was due to the child falling off the couch.
The Department of Human Services was notified by the hospital and then called law enforcement. The injuries to the child included a fractured skull and fractured ribs.
