A routine traffic stop leads to the discovery of 15 suspected illegal immigrants packed inside a van.
Tuesday morning a Colorado State Patrol Trooper noticed a van heading east on Interstate-70 with its windshield obstructed. When the trooper pulled the van over he noticed 15 people in a van that only seats seven.
The people in the van told the trooper they were on their way to Florida to work. The trooper called the State Patrol's new ICE Unit to investigate their legal status. ICE determined everyone in the van was in the country illegally.
Federal ICE agents were called to detain the van of people until they're processed.
The Colorado State Patrol's ICE Unit has been up and running for just over a month. The unit is made up of two troopers based in Fruita.
