Grand Junction Woman Killed in Deadly Crash

A Grand Junction woman is dead after witnesses say she ran a red light and was broadsided by a garbage truck.

The accident happened at 2:25pm at Highway 50 and Sundance Drive on Orchard Mesa.

A garbage truck was traveling east bound on Highway 50 near Sundance Drive when witnesses say a silver pontiac sped through a red light and was broadsided by the waste management truck.

Troopers say the silver pontiac spun several times and ended up in the west bound lane of highway fifty.

They say the driver of the pontiac, a 52 year old woman from Grand Junction, was wearing a seatbelt but died on impact.

The State Patrol says the driver and passenger of the truck are shaken up from the crash but didn't need medical treatment.

The crash is still under investigation as troopers try to figure out what caused the crash. They say the truck driver will not be cited.

State troopers aren't releasing the woman's name until next of kin is notified.
