Residents in North Grand Junction were without power for a little more than an hour this morning. Xcel energy says that Monday's heavy rains are to blame for the outage.
It was lights out Tuesday morning for residents on 27 Road to Grand Junction Regional Airport, and Patterson Road to the Airport. Xcel Energy spokesmen Fred Eggleson says that 1,886 customers were without power from about 5 a.m. until 6:30.
The outage also knocked out power to Walker Field airport, a phone call to the airport was not immediately returned, so it's unknown if any flights were affected.
Xcel says that Heavy rains caused an underground cable to not function properly. Crews have re-routed power away from the bad underground cable and will work to replace it later today. No further outages are expected.
