Virginia Tech underwent tragedy last April with the massacre of more than thirty students, and just this week a student was stabbed in the throat at the University of Colorado Boulder. Now students at Mesa State say they want to be informed right away if an emergency like this were to hit home.

Many colleges and university's around the country have a Text Messaging system in place in case of emergencies, this way they can quickly inform a large number of students. Mesa State is not one of these schools.

Mesa State College is in the midst of updating its emergency plan, this includes texting students, that will soon be turned over to local law enforcement agencies for review.
