A Senate committee is debating a proposed fuel tax increase for airplanes. If it passes it will cost consumers in more ways than just flying.
The changes in question would impose a "user fee" for airspace. This will then cut the fuel taxes for big airlines, but it will double those of general aviation.
The Senate Commerce committee recommends eliminating the .043 per gallon fuel tax that big airlines currently pay, while general aviation's tax would more than double to almost fifty cents.
