Community supports middle schooler with cancer

Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) - A school and community come together to support one of their own. Middle school student Jackson Pierce, known by his friends as Jax, was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer.

On Monday, students, parents and teachers at Redlands Middle School held a bake sale to raise money to help Jax and his family during his fight against cancer. Additional funds were raised by members of Journey for Wellness, who offered ten minute massages and natural health consultations.

It's a cause the students and parents believe in "because he is part of our school and it's important that we help out with the family because they're going through a tough time with it," says Jaren Gisner, a student.

Jax has been receiving treatment at Children's Hospital in Aurora, Colo. The students raised over $2,200 dollars. All the money is going to Jax’s family.
