DENVER (AP) -- The American Civil Liberties Union has filed a
lawsuit in Federal District Court against three Colorado State
Patrol officers and two training supervisors in the death of an
unarmed Grand Junction man.
The man was killed last summer when he refused to allow officers to enter his home without a warrant.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Connie and Keith Kemp, the
parents of 31-year-old Jason Alan Kemp. Kemp died after Trooper
Ivan Lawyer shot him in the chest.
The Colorado State Patrol says Kemp was shot after an exchange
with a trooper. Kemp was suspected of being involved in a traffic
accident.
The lawsuit claims the officers were negligent and they had insufficient training.
A spokesman for the highway patrol had no immediate response.
