BRIGHTON, Colo. (AP) Mayors from seven Adams County communities are demanding the sheriff lift a cap on the number of inmates that will be accepted or they will take the sheriff to court.
The county commissioners allowed the sheriff to limit the number of city inmates held at the jail last year because of budget problems. The commission later rescinded the cap, but the sheriff continues to enforce it.
According to the Denver Post, the mayors say the county commissioners have the authority to make the decision, not the sheriff.
