Burglar hand holding crowbar break opening door
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Army officials have confirmed that two people killed in a burglary at their Colorado Springs home were a soldier from Moorpark, Calif., and his wife.
Colorado Springs police had said earlier that 37-year-old David Dunlap and 35-year-old Whitney M. Butler were shot by a burglar when they returned to their home at about noon on Monday.
No suspects have been identified.
The Army says Dunlap was a staff sergeant in the 4th Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Carson outside Colorado Springs. His specialty was repairing armament, electrical and avionic systems on Apache helicopters. He joined the Army in 2003 and arrived at Fort Carson in November.
He deployed to Iraq in 2007-08.
Police listed Dunlap's wife's last name as Butler but the Army said it was Dunlap.
