COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- A Colorado Springs man charged with strangling an 87-year-old woman and setting her body on fire is scheduled to be arraigned June 24.

Police say 22-year-old Marcus Allen Smith was arrested after Katherine "Kit" Grazioli was strangled by an intruder in her gated community near Fort Carson in November 2011. Her body was then set ablaze on a dirt road.

District Judge Barbara L. Hughes has ruled Smith is competent to stand trial, but she sealed her 13-page order without a request by attorneys in the case and with no explanation on the record.

The Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/16zpYuw) Smith will be represented by public defenders, and his trial date will be scheduled at the June hearing.
