GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) -- As the whooping cough outbreak in Garfield County continues, officials are stepping up efforts to prevent it by offering free Tdap immunizations.
The grand total of confirmed pertussis (whooping cough) cases has risen to ten, the Garfield County Public Health Department reports. The two most recent were in Glenwood Springs.
To combat the disease, anyone ten years old and younger can get free Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccinations at public health offices in Rifle and Glenwood Springs. The health department recommends that all adults also get a Tdap shot, even if they've had a tetanus/diphtheria vaccination.
Appointments for immunizations will be required, so call (970) 945-6614 for the Glenwood Springs location, 2014 Blake Avenue, or call 970-625-5200 for the Rifle office, 195 W. 14th Street.
The Glenwood office will also hold walk-in vaccination clinics on April 29 and 30 from 3 to 6 p.m.
