GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Airport Authority released an official statement on the investigation on Wednesday evening:
This morning the Grand Junction Regional Airport Authority was served with a federal warrant to produce certain financial records.
"The Authority has not been informed of the purpose of this investigation or when it will be completed," said Denny Granum, Chairman of the Airport Authority Board. "The Airport Authority will continue to fully cooperate with federal authorities so this investigation can be completed as soon as possible."
In the meantime, the Grand Junction Airport remains open and the Airport Authority does no anticipate any disruption in its operations.
"The Authority has not been informed of the purpose of the investigation, so there is nothing more we can share at this time," said Granum.
FBI Public Information Officer Dave Joly tells KKCO NBC 11 News the Federal Bureau of Investigation is executing search warrants at Grand Junction Regional Airport. He says they are investigating fraud in the administration.
In a statement, he says, "Today, the FBI and Department of Transportation are executing a Federal Court-authorized search warrant at the Grand Junction Airport in furtherance of an ongoing investigation into allegations of fraud, not into operations at the airport."
Joly went on to say that public safety, flights and TSA will not be affected by their investigations.
The search warrants were originally planned to be executed in private - away from the public eye - but FBI agents are now having to conduct some of their work in the main terminal building. The airport's administration offices, at 743 Horizon Court, is also the site of some investigation.
The airport administration offices have been closed at this time.
