COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) The El Paso County sheriff is disputing statements by Black Forest fire chief Bob Harvey that a wildfire that destroyed more than 500 homes and killed two people in June was caused by humans and "likely intentional."

Sheriff Terry Maketa issued a statement on Thursday calling the comments "unqualified."

Harvey told KKTV-TV he has been working with investigators and this was the conclusion they had reached over the past few weeks.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office said several weeks after the fire there was no evidence the fire was deliberately set, but it could not be ruled out completely.
